Legal info about the people arrested at the 2000 Republican National Convention (RNC) in Philadelphia. Camilo Vivieros was one of these hundreds arrested and treated brutally over those days of the Convention, but he had the misfortune of being charged with assaulting the top Philly cop: Police Commissioner Timony. Those who know Camilo believe that it is unlikely that he committed any such assault.

POLITICAL PRISONERS

At any given time in the United States there are approximately 100 political prisoners serving time in our country's ever-expanding prison system. You may have heard about Mumia Abu-Jamal, the journalist who has been wrongfully imprisoned on death row. And, you have probably heard something about Leonard Peltier, the AIM activist who has been wrongfully imprisoned for over 20 years.

But, there are many others that have not received so much attention from the "progressive community" or the mainstream press. Checking the websites below is a great way to find out about the extent of political imprisonment and how you can help.

Prison Activists Resource Center's page on political prisoners ... if you only look at one, this is highly recommended. Their list of political prisoners is very comprehensive and updated frequently . Please consider writing to a political prisoner, donating to their support groups and/or families, visiting a political prisoner and/or sending literature to a prison. You can also donate some time to a group like PARC. And, perhaps most importantly - join in the demand to immediately release all political prisoners.

Free Radical's page on political repression includes environmentalists "Free" and "Critter" and others that are not listed elsewhere

Free Speech Defense Committee based in Denver, Colorado ... current feature on activists who are in prison for refusing to cooperate with a grand jury investigation

Lori Berenson is in prison in Lima, Peru for her political activities and beliefs.
